REGISTRATION ONGOING FOR SCRIBES & SCRIBBLERS
2006 Creative Writing Camps Launch on July 10

(July 6, 2006) Aspen, CO … The Aspen Writers' Foundation invites kids and teens to participate in the 15th annual Scribes & Scribblers Creative Writing Camps, held July 10-21 and July 24-August 4 in Aspen and Basalt. A few spots are still left and registration remains open for the 2006 camps.

The nonprofit literary organization offers youths ages 8 to 15 years the opportunity to discover their voice, explore new writing, take field trips and create a web 'zine through their six camp offerings. Always fun and creative adventures with words, the camps explore all elements of writing and wrap with an author party and reading/performance.

New this year, individual camp sessions, which are half-day and two weeks in length, will have unique themes and projects — such as storytelling, writing for stage and screen, and investigative reporting — that campers will use as tools for discovery and self-expression. Also added in 2006, the Aspen Writers’ Foundation will collaborate with the Wyly Community Art Center on a full-day, two-week camp that examines “The Art of Books and Words” through writing and bookmaking.

Presented by the Aspen Writers' Foundation — with support from the City of Aspen, Cotsen Family Foundation, The Thrift Shop, Urban Foundation, Town Center Booksellers, the Town of Basalt and Aspen Public Radio — Scribes & Scribblers is an opportunity for kids to cultivate their passion for writing.

Tuition for the half-day camps is $225 and $450 for the full-day camp. The cost includes instruction, writing materials, refreshments and a student reading/party at the end of the session. The Art of Books and Words also has a $75 materials fee. A limited number of partial-tuition scholarships are available, and all interested children are encouraged to apply.
