While
our days always include a combination of creative and
physical activities — such as writing sessions,
capture the flag, brainteasers, snacks and water balloon
toss — the daily schedule is customized to the interests
and needs of each group.
A typical day starts with a short warm-up game before
the group launches into a writing exercise or field trip.
Each day teachers review a particular form and encourage
the kids to experiment with it. Campers are encouraged
to read their works-in-progress to the group. Teachers
also spark the imagination with field trips.
After a 30-minute break (often spent playing a game outside),
and then another 30 to 45 minutes of free writing time,
the session wraps with a word puzzle and a snack.
The Aspen Writers' Foundation invites family and friends
to attend the last day of camp, when we host an author
reading and party honoring all the campers.
