OUR PROGRAMS
The Aspen Writers' Foundation provides eight year-round
programs that annually serve 17,000+ literary enthusiasts
of all ages.
Aspen Summer Words
June 22 to
27, 2008
| Each summer bibliophiles
from across the nation gather in Aspen to celebrate
the written word during one of the region’s
biggest literary workshops. Aspen Summer Words,
our flagship program, is a five-day writing retreat
and literary festival that offers an inspiring array
of events — from author readings and writing
workshops to publishing industry panels and VIP
receptions.

AWF Reads
Winner of the 2006 Grassie Award for "Most
Outstanding Non-Profit Show"
Book lovers tune in! Bestsellers, first novels, book club
favorites, and award winners are the discussion du jour
on AWF Reads (formerly known as Speak Volumes), the Aspen
Writers' Foundation's community book club on GrassRoots
TV (in Aspen). Join our panels of local literary enthusiasts
as they read between the lines of new and notable books
during the rotating series of half-hour shows.
Lyrically
Speaking
The Aspen Writers' Foundation presents a new series celebrating
songwriters and their lyrics. The interactive program
— designed as "Inside the Actor's Studio"
meets VH1's "Storytellers" — is part interview,
part performance featuring some of today's most engaging
lyricists. The goals of Lyrically Speaking are to honor
the poetry contained within lyrics and to raise interest
in a relatively neglected literary genre: the written
word expressed through music.
Scribes & Scribblers
| During these creative
writing camps, kids and teens ages 8 to 15 explore
the written word, discover how to express themselves
on the page, and collaboratively write, edit and
design a web 'zine of their works. The day camps
are held each July and August in Aspen and Basalt.

Weekly Writers Groups
| The Aspen Writers’
Foundation now offers two weekly writers groups that
provide an environment for community, camaraderie,
creativity and critique. The longstanding Tuesday
Writers Group is a read-and-critique forum
for writers to share and polish work that they have
written prior to the meeting. Write Now!
is a new session that offers group exercises and techniques
to jump start writing. |

Winter Words
Since the winter of 1998, the Aspen Writers' Foundation
has presented a seasonal series of unforgettable evenings
with remarkable writers. Notable authors bring their books
to life through readings and talks held at locations around
Aspen in January through March.
Words
Away
Now in its 6th year, Words Away is an annual international literary
expedition. Each fall we travel to a spectacular location on the globe with
an itinerary planned with readers and writers in mind. This October, we are
collaborating with Abercrombie & Kent to feature Kenya: a Literary
Safari.
Writers in the Schools
This educational outreach program features creative writing
mentorships, guest speakers and the publication of a literary
magazine at the high school level. The program takes place
in Aspen-area public schools throughout the school year.
