No matter which route you select, you can count on the Aspen Summer Words Writing Retreat to provide outstanding instruction from faculty who are as highly regarded for their writing as for their teaching; an intimate learning environment; and above all, a safe and nurturing setting for sharing your work. As our returning alumni and faculty members will tell you, Aspen Summer Words is the ideal venue for discovering your voice and your craft. Our finely tuned Writing Retreat offers various types of writing workshops for every level and interest:
5-Day Juried Workshops
Ideal for students seeking intensive instruction and individualized critique, who wish to polish a manuscript they have in development, juried workshops offer daily writing exercises, reading assignments, and discussion of student work. A manuscript submission is required for admission.
Workshops include advanced fiction, intermediate fiction, narrative nonfiction,and poetry.
5-Day Non-Juried Workshop
Our introductory offerings include workshops for novice or experienced writers of all ages who wish to get their feet wet in the world of writing. A writing sample is not required for admission.
Workshops include beginning fiction, personal essay and memoir,and a course for young writers between the ages of 14 and 18 years old.
Interactive Symposia These dynamic and multi-dimensional courses examine the written word from every angle, inspire creativity and expand horizons. A writing sample is not required for admission.
Symposia include a two-day literature appreciation workshop and two one-day publishing seminars.
