  Award-winning writer Daniel Alarcón is the author of seven books including the short story collection War by Candlelight, which was a finalist for the 2005 PEN/Hemingway Award. His novel Lost City Radio won the 2009 International Literature Prize given by the House of World Culture in Berlin and was named a Best Novel of the Year by the San Francisco Chronicle and The Washington Post, among others. Alarcón is the associate editor of Etiqueta Negra, a quarterly published in his native Lima, Peru. He is also a contributing editor for Granta, and was recently named one of The New Yorker’s 20 Under 40, a feature which highlights twenty of the most inventive writers who have influenced modern American fiction. Alarcón's work has appeared in A Public Space, El País, McSweeney’s, Harper’s, and other publications. He lives in Oakland, California, where he is a Visiting Scholar at the UC Berkeley Center for Latin American Studies.
