The evening's program featured The Three Louies, a trio of Chicano artists – musician Luís Pérez of Los Lobos, author Luís J. Rodriguez, and journalist Luís Torres – in a one-of-a-kind show described as Spalding Gray meets the Marx Brothers in East L.A. This satirical wink at “growing up Mexican” in the U.S., was an unforgettable mix of performance art, storytelling, and comedy.
This special night featured an intimate musical performance by powerhouse Brazilian bossa nova jazz duo, vocalist Claudia Villela, celebrated for her five-octave range, and guitarist Romero Lubambo, renowned as the “Segovia of Brazilian guitar.” This pair has been hailed as the biggest expression of Brazilian music in the Untied States today.
